Baseball Starts 2024 With Four Games Against Phoenix

1/24/2024 2:24:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – As Yavapai County prepares for spring weather, the Yavapai College baseball team heads south for some baseball weather to begin its 2024 season with four games against the Phoenix College Bears on the schedule.

"Our team is geared up and ready to get after it and compete for a conference title," Head Coach Patrick Woods said when asked about the upcoming season. "This group has committed to the process to reach the ultimate goal: Grand Junction."

The Games
Baseball starts on Friday, January 26, in Phoenix, Arizona, where the Roughriders and Bears will play at noon and 2:30 p.m. The following day, the squads will play another doubleheader at the same times with YC designated as the home team, due to the weather canceling Yavapai's home games originally scheduled for Saturday.

The Bears
Last season, Phoenix went 21-34 overall, however, this season, the Bears are receiving votes in the NJCAA DII Baseball Preseason Rankings.

The Roughriders
Last season, YC went 29-20, finished fifth in the ACCAC standings and narrowly missed out on a regional playoff berth.

This season, Head Coach Patrick Woods and Assistant Coaches JJ Flores, Tom Succow and Ray Clinton will look to get back to the playoffs with a roster of 38 student-athletes that includes 11 returners and 27 newcomers.
