Roughrider Baseball Lands Five On All-Conference Teams

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Baseball season has come to a close at Yavapai College and with it comes the recognition of five Roughriders earning All-Conference and All-Region honors the conference office announced earlier this week. 

Sophomore infielder Riley Nelson, sophomore catcher Wailele Kane-Yates, sophomore outfielder Ryan Pruitt and freshman outfielder Nate Nichols all took home First-Team All-Conference honors while freshman pitcher Traig Oughton earned Second-Team All-Conference honors. 

Nelson and Kane-Yates also took home First-Team All-Region honors while Pruitt, Nichols and Oughton were named Second-Team All-Region. 

Riley Nelson
The Roughrider first baseman and No. 3 hitter played in all 54 games this season and tore the cover off the ball all season, finishing with a .412 batting average, 48 runs scored, 70 hits, 21 doubles, two triples, 13 homers, 55 RBI's, 29 walks, an OBP of .495 and SLG% of .788. 

He led the Roughriders in batting average, hits, doubles, homers (tied for first), RBI's, walks, OBP and SLG%. In the conference, he was ninth in runs scored, fourth in hits, first in doubles, tied for first in homers, second in RBI's, third in batting average, fourth in OBP and first in slugging. 

Defensively, Nelson made just one error in 311 total chances this season for a fielding percentage of .997. 

Wailele Kane-Yates
YC's backstop and cleanup hitter played in 51 games this season and followed up his freshman campaign with an even more impressive sophomore campaign with a .354 batting average, 43 runs scored, 56 hits, 13 doubles, 13 homers, 42 RBI's, 17 walks, an OBP of .441 and SLG% of .684. 

Kane-Yates tied the team and conference lead in homers with Nelson and finished fourth in the conference in SLG%. 

Behind the dish, Kane-Yates gunned down 10 would-be base stealers this season while holding a .986 fielding percentage. 

Traig Oughton
The Roughrider ace made 17 appearances on the mound in 2024 with 12 of them being starts and went 7-1 with a 3.94 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched, leading the Roughriders in starts, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. 

In addition to the final numbers, Oughton capped off his freshman campaign with one of the best runs any pitcher in the country had in 2024, earning victories in his final six appearances (all starts) against Mesa, GateWay, then-No. 2-ranked Central Arizona, then-No. 14-ranked Pima, Arizona Western and Eastern Arizona with the final five games all being complete-game victories. 

In the conference, Oughton tied for eighth in wins. 

Ryan Pruitt
YC's leadoff hitter and center fielder brought the spark to the top of the lineup all season long, playing in 53 games and finishing with a .383 batting average, 51 runs scored, 67 hits, 18 doubles, three triples, five homers, 31 RBI's 16 walks, 23 steals, an OBP of .438 and SLG% of .606. 

He led the Roughriders in runs scored, triples and steals. In the conference, he was eighth in runs scored, ninth in hits, fourth in doubles, eighth in steals, seventh in batting average and seventh in SLG%. 

Defensively, Pruitt made just one error in 106 total chances this season for a fielding percentage of .991. 

Nate Nichols
The Roughrider left fielder moved up and down the lineup all year and was productive from every spot in just 37 games played, slashing .371 with 28 runs scored, 43 hits, four doubles, two triples, four homers, 25 RBI's, nine walks, an OBP of .434 and SLG% of 543.
