Yavapai Softball Opens Season in Tucson at the Pima Softball Invitational

YC SB goes 1-3 at Pima SB Inv.

TUCSON, Ariz. (January 24, 2026)

Yavapai Softball is back! The team went on the road to Tucson this weekend to participate in the weather-affected Pima Softball Invitational, where the Roughriders would start their season 1-3, including a close loss against the #6-ranked Pima Aztecs.

Game 1 - Chandler-Gilbert CC

The Roughriders would win their first game of the season 13-8 against Chandler-Gilbert!

Danica Kern, Daisy Smith, Kayley Gibb, and Georgia Wagner-Stiles all had 2 RBI's each, while Mindy Ward, Avree Rhodes, and Yeluamny Alavarado each batted in one. No home runs were scored in this game, but Alvarado's single hit of the day resulted in a Triple, and both of Gibb's hits were Doubles. Ward and Rhodes each stole two bases as well.

In 5 innings pitched, starting pitcher Sofi Wagner-Stiles recorded 2 strikeouts and one fielding assist.

Sofi's sister Georgia caught a runner stealing as one of her 2 assists, while Sophomore Tamryn Tucker recorded 4.

Game 2 - Chandler-Gilbert CC

The following game, also against CGCC, was a 0-8 loss for the Roughriders.

Yeluamny Alvarado recorded the single hit of the game.

Daisy Smith pitched 5 innings and recorded 2 K's.

Mindy Ward, Danica Kern, and Kayley Gibb each had a Double Play in this game.

Game 3 - Scottsdale CC

The next day, January 24th, Yavapai faced off against the Artichokes and lost 3-5.

3 Roughrider hits were recorded in this game, including an extra base hit by Mindy Ward. Daisy Smith and Sofia Romero each batted a runner in, and Yeluamny Alvarado stole a base.

In 5 innings, Sofi Wagner-Stiles had her best game of the season thus far, recording 6 strikeouts and allowing zero earned runs. Ryder Wilmarth came out of the bullpen and threw 2 K's in 2 innings.

Georgia Wagner-Stiles caught one runner stealing and allowed no one to steal a base.

Game 4 - #6 Pima CC

In the final game of the invitational, Yavapai went head-to-head against the hosts of the invitational, #6 Pima, and lost 3-6.

Kayley Gibb had a standout performance, recording 2 hits, both of them doubles, and batting in 2 with those hits. Avree Rhodes batted in the third runner. Yeluamny Alvarado and Eniyah Dominguez each stole a base.

Daisy Smith recorded 2 strikeouts and 3 fielding assists.

Gibb, Tamryn Tucker, and Dani Kern had 2 assists each.
