PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Over the weekend, the Yavapai Baseball team hosted a 3-game series vs. conference rival Community Christian! The weather would prove to make the games challenging, but Yavapai would end up getting the job done, sweeping the Saints at home 3-0!

Game 1

The weather was cold and it even snowed during the game, but that didn't stop the Riders from winning 7-3, taking a 1-0 series lead!

Kevin Ramos and Caleb Horsey both scored 1-Run Home Runs during this game! The other runs would be scored by Reid Hurtt, Nathan Nichols, Brady Francisco, and Liam Richards. Horsey would bat in 2 runs, Ramos just the one run, and the runs were batted in by Hurtt, Nichols, Richards, and Justin Cherrington. 

Liam Richards would record a double in this game, as well as 2 stolen bases!

In order to preserve energy for the upcoming series against Central Arizona, many pitchers were rotated in this game. With that said, pitchers Collin Adams and AJ Diaz each had 3 strikeouts, while Chase Blease and Ty Thompson each had 2. Adams had his 3 strikeouts facing only 7 batters, and Ty Thompson had his 2 with no hits in 3 innings!

Brady Francisco had 10 putouts, while Justin Cherrington had 9. Matthew Peterson and Francisco each had 3 assists as well. 

Game 2

The second game of the series had much better weather, and in turn, much more effective Roughrider play! Yavapai would win 19-3 in 5 innings.

Reid Hurtt was the only Roughrider to score a home run, in which he scored a 3-run homer batted deep into right field!

Liam Richards and Nate Nichols would each run in 3 runs, while Hurtt, Kevin Ramos, Lucas Franz, and Caleb Horsey would each run in 2. The other runs came from Matthew Peterson, AJ Diaz, Derek Kiepke, Brady Francisco, and Jackson Schofield.

Hurtt and Richards each batted in 3 runs, while 2 runs were batted in by Franz, Horsey, Kiepke, and Francisco. Horsey stole a base in this game as well.

Kyle Lockridge would record one strikeout, while Carson Feddema had 2.

Derek Kiepke caught a runner stealing at catcher, and would record 3 putouts. Justin Cherrington also had 3 putouts, while Schofield had 5 at first base.

Game 3

The final game of the series started off a little shaky, but there was never a doubt that the home team would win, as they would score 18 to the Saint's 8.

Dalton Irwin would score a 2-run Home Run in this game, his second of the year and his second against Community Christian (first one was 2/14 @ CCC)!

The other 17 runs came from Liam Richards (4), Brady Francisco (3), Justin Cherrington (3), Matthew Peterson (2), Caleb Horsey (2), Reid Hurtt, Kevin Ramos and Nathan Nichols. Ramos would bat in 4 runs, and Cherrington had 3 runs batted in. Peterson, Richards, and Francisco all had triples in this game!

Richards would have 4 steals in this game, including one for home that would end the game! Ramos had 2 steals.

Justin Parkes had 4 strikeouts in 3.1 innings, and Owen Fernandes had 2.

Derek Kiepke had 5 putouts, one assist, and caught one runner stealing. Cherrington had 4 putouts, and Reid Hurtt had 2 assists.

This upcoming Monday and Tuesday, Yavapai will host the previously rescheduled 3-game series vs. #21 Central Arizona. Game 1 will be on April 7th at 2 PM. Games 2 and 3 will be on Tuesday, April 8th, starting at Noon.
