Last night, Yavapai College hosted the annual "Evening of STARs" awards ceremony, and two Yavapai Athletes were given awards for their scholarly efforts! These two athletes were Sophomore Women's Soccer player
Megan Townsend, and Sophomore Volleyball player
Teodora Popovic!
Megan was given the award titled "Excellence in Sociology," where she had excelled in many of her Sociology classes here at Yavapai College! She was nominated by Prof. Karla Way Schuwecker, and the professor said Townsend "...embodies the qualities of a remarkable student and athlete. She truly deserves recognition for her achievements and dedication, on and off the field."
Teodora was nominated and awarded the "Excellence in Graphic Design" award, due to her efforts in creating fantastic graphically designed projects despite having the very busy schedule of being a student athlete and student worker. She was nominated by her professor, Lindsay Masten, who described Teodora as "...a silent assassin of design...she works quietly, then pops up with great ideas during class critiques."Â
STAR students are students that are thriving and deserve recognition (hence, S.T.A.R.). Megan and Teodora are excellent examples of students that deserve recognition, not only on the court or field, but also in the classrooms!Â
Congratulations to both of these student athletes!
