PRESCOTT, Ariz. – On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 15th, the Yavapai Baseball Roughriders faced off in a non-conference double-header vs. the Scottsdale Post Grad Baseball Club. Yavapai would win 2 more on their home field, sweeping the Roadrunners 2-0.

Game 1

The first game at Noon ended in 5 innings, with the Riders winning 16-4!

Both Matthew Peterson and AJ Diaz had Home Runs in this game, with Peterson batting in 3 runs from his homer, and Diaz achieving the coveted Grand Slam!

Dalton Irwin ran in for 3, while Reid Hurtt, Peterson, and Kevin Ramos all ran in for 2. Diaz, Carson Feddema, Nathan Nichols, Derek Kiepke, Liam Richards, Justin Cherrington, and Jackson Schofield all ran in for one run as well. Hurtt, Feddema, and Irwin all batted in 2 runs each, and Richards and Nichols would account for one run batted in each as well.

Liam Richards had 3 stolen bases in this game, all of which would happen in the first inning and would also result in the first run for the Riders! Irwin also stole 2, and Hurtt had a steal.

Pitchers Austin Kalsek and Kyle Lockridge had 3 strikeouts each, and Griffen Clapp had 2 in 2 innings.

Derek Kiepke had 5 putouts in the game, while Brady Francisco and Jackson Schofield had 2. The Roughriders did not record a single error in this game.

Game 2

The second game of the day resulted in another Roughrider win, where they took down the Roadrunners 10-0 in 5 innings!

Reid Hurtt had the big home run of this game, batting in himself and Justin Cherrington in the bottom of the 4th!

The other 8 runs came from Cherrington (3 total), Lucas Franz (2), Matthew Peterson, AJ Diaz, Caleb Horsey, and Liam Richards. The runs were batted in from Peterson (2), Nate Nichols, Horsey, Dalton Irwin, and Richards. Richards and Diaz would each steal a base in this game.

The Yavapai pitchers played an excellent all-around second game, whereas they allowed zero runs and only 2 hits total. Starting Pitcher Collin Adams faced 6 batters and struck out 5 of them in just 2 innings! The pitchers had 8 total K's, with the other 3 coming from Ty Thompson (6 BF), Justin Parked (3 BF), and AJ Diaz (2 BF).

Catcher Lucas Franz had 7 putouts, and Kevin Ramos had 2 assists. Dalton Irwin, Reid Hurtt, and Justin Cherrington all were credited with double plays as well.

As of right now, if the weather over the weekend is in line with playing conditions, the Roughriders will continue conference play at home against Eastern Arizona. Game 1 will be on Friday, April 18th, starting at 2 PM. Then, on Saturday April 19th, a double-header vs. the Gila Monsters will begin at Noon, with the second game starting at 2:30 PM.
