PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Over these past two days, the Yavapai Baseball team has had their home opening games vs. #16 College of Southern Nevada. The teams played three games over the span of both Friday, Feb 7th, and Saturday, Feb. 8th, but the Roughriders went 0-3 against the visiting Coyotes.
Game 1
The first game began at noon on Friday, February 17th, and the Roughriders lost 8-10 vs. the Coyotes.
Matthew Peterson scored three runs--Â including two home runs-- while
Cade Schupp (HR),
Kevin Ramos,
Caleb Horsey,
Liam Richards, and
Justin Cherrington all ran in one each. Peterson and Schupp each batted three in, with Cherrington batting one runner in.Â
Ramos and Richards each stole a base this game.
Austin Kalsek and
Ty Thompson both struck out 2 batters each, while
Collin Adams and
Kyle Lockridge each struck out one. Thompson caught one runner stealing a base.
Justin Cherrington had 8 putouts in this game, while
Kevin Ramos had 5 fielding assists.. Catcher
Brady Francisco prevented a runner from stealing a base.
Game 2
The second game of the Friday double-header was a close contest, with Yavapai just barely losing 4-5.
The runs were scored by
Liam Richards (2),
AJ Diaz, and
Justin Cherrington. One of Richards' runs was a Home Run! Richards batted in 2, and Diaz batted in one.
Pitcher
Traig Oughton had 3 strikeouts in 6 innings.
Payton Pudenz had one as well.
Nick Garcia caught a runner stealing.
Caleb Horsey and Liam Rochards each had 5 putouts, while
Matthew Peterson had 3 assists.
Brady Francisco caught another runner stealing a base.
Game 3

In the final game of the series vs. Southern Nevada, the home team wanted to cut the visitor's winning streak short. However, the Saturday 12 PM game ended with Yavapai going down 13-5 in 7 innings.
Matthew Peterson and
Liam Richards each had 2 runs, and
Kevin Ramos had one run. Their runs were batted in by
AJ Diaz,
Brady Francisco,
Justin Cherrington, and
Jackson Schofield.Â

Carter Boone had 5 strikeouts in 2 innings!
Austin Kalsek,
Shane Hooper, and
Chase Blease each had one as well.Â

Lucas Franz had 6 putouts, with Cherrington right behind him with 5. Ramos had 4 assists.Â

Next week, the Roughriders will make their way to California, to face off in Conference play vs. Community Christian. There will be three games, including a double header on Friday the 14th (3:30 PM, 6:30 PM), and a 3:30 PM game on Saturday the 15th.
