Yavapai Baseball Sweeps Ottawa At Home!

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Earlier today, the Yavapai Baseball team played in a double-header against Ottawa University in Arizona. The home team swept the visitors 2–0, and Yavapai has now been on a 9 game win streak!

Game 1

The first game of the day began at Noon, and the Roughriders beat the Spirit 6-2.

Matthew Peterson and Justin Cherrington each hit a home run in this game! They would each just bat in one run, with other runs coming from Kevin Ramos and Brady Francisco. Nathan Nichols would bat in 2 of these runs.

Nichols also had 3 stolen bases in this game, with other steals coming from AJ Diaz, Ramos, and Francisco.

Shane Hooper would pitch 3 innings and receive 6 strikeouts! Chase Blease and Ty Thompson also each pitched 2 innings and struck out 2 and 3.

Brady Francisco would have a ridiculous 11 putouts, while Cherrington and Peterson each had 3. Fielding assists would come from Francisco, Ty Thompson, and Kevin Ramos.

Game 2

The final game of the day began around 2:30, and Yavapai dominated their competition, winning 12-1.

Reid Hurtt, Nate Nichols, Derek Kiepke, and Justin Cherrington each ran in for 2 runs, while Carson Feddema, AJ Diaz, Lucas Franz, and Caleb Horsey all ran in for 1. Their runs were batted in by Cherrington (3), Diaz, Kevin Ramos, Franz, Nichols, Kiepke, and Caleb Horsey

Diaz, Nichols, and Cherrington each had a steal.

Kyle Lockridge would be the starting pitcher for this game– pitching for 2.1 innings and amassing 2 strikeouts– but Justin Parkes, Owen Fernandes, and third-baseman AJ Diaz would pitch in this game too. Parkes would strike out 2 while only facing 2 batters!

Catcher Lucas Franz had 6 putouts, while Peterson and Cherrington each had 2.

The guys play on the road this weekend, hoping to keep their win streak alive in conference play! The Roughriders will face off against Eastern Arizona in 3 games, with Game 1 on Friday, February 28th at 2 PM, and a Double-Header on Saturday, March 1st, with games at 12 and 2:30 PM.
