PHOENIX – The Yavapai College softball team improved to 3-1 in conference play on Tuesday afternoon after its doubleheader sweep of the Paradise Valley Community College Pumas in the valley in which YC tallied run-rule shutouts in each game. 

The Roughriders, now 3-8 overall, defeated PVCC 14-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two and have now won three of their last four ballgames.  

Game One
Freshman pitcher Samara Romero tossed another gem in Tuesday afternoon's first game, going all five innings with just one hit and one walk allowed to go along with eight strikeouts. 

With Romero owning the circle, it was just up to the Roughrider bats on how quickly they would get to eight runs to put the run-rule into effect. They did so with a three spot in the first and five spot in the third, before adding three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings for good measure and a 14-0 lead. 

All 10 Roughriders who recorded an at-bat tallied a hit in the ballgame with freshman infielders Brianna Baca, Emmersyn Villa and Hayden McGuire each tallying two along with freshman outfielder Ivannya Perez. Sophomore infielders Darby Kramp and Torie Au, sophomore catcher Amanda Pay, sophomore outfielder Meghan Kelly and freshman infielders Charley Pitrat and Angelica Carrillo all tallied one hit. 

Kramp cranked the lone Roughrider homer in game one while Au led in runs scored with three and McGuire led in RBIs with four. In addition, no Roughrider struck out in game one. 

Game Two
Fellow freshman pitcher Jordyn Busseri started inside the circle in game two and followed up Romero's start with another dominating performance, going all five innings while allowing just two hits and no walks with three strikeouts. 

This time, the Roughrider bats scored two runs apiece in the first, second and fourth innings, before putting the run-rule into effect with a four spot in the top of the fifth. 

Baca and Au led the Roughrider offense with three hits apiece while Perez had two. Villa, McGuire, Pitrat and Pay each finished with one hit each. Baca and Pay both scored three times while Baca led in RBIs with four.
