PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 5-ranked Yavapai College softball team took care of business on Saturday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona, defeating the South Mountain Community College Cougars 14-1 in game one and 15-0 in game two. For the Roughriders, they move to 20-1 overall on the season, 12-0 in ACCAC play and push their streak of run-rule victories to 19.

Game One
Sophomore pitcher Emily Dix earned her eighth-consecutive win inside the circle in game one with five innings pitched, 10 strikeouts and just three hits and one earned run allowed.

At the plate, the Roughriders did most of their damage in the first inning. Of the first 10 hitters, eight reached base via free passes (six walks and two hit-by-pitches) to give YC a quick 5-0 lead.

After the eighth free pass, sophomore outfielder Kayla Rodgers ended the game before it started with a grand slam to put the Roughriders up 9-0 before the defense stepped onto the field.

Freshman infielder Makena Riggs added an RBI single in the second, freshman infielder Lovey Kepa'a hit a sacrifice fly in the third, freshman catchers Jasmine Moreno and Ashley Fields hit back-to-back homers in the fourth and Moreno added an RBI single in the fifth to bring Yavapai's run total to 14.

With the Cougars only crossing home plate once, the final score wound up being 14-1 in favor of the Roughriders.

Overall, Moreno and freshman infielder Yaya Kaaialii each had two hits while sophomore outfielder Mia Weckel, Rodgers, sophomore infielder Cheyenne Sandoval, Fields, Riggs and sophomore outfielder Alyssa Rosales all had one.

Game Two
Freshman pitcher Emily Darwin also captured her eighth-consecutive win of the season inside the circle in game two with five scoreless innings, three strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Offensively, Yavapai scored once in the first, twice in the second and six times in the third and fourth innings for a total of 15 runs.

Riggs led the Roughriders in game two with three hits, two of which were three-run homers in addition to an RBI single, and seven RBIs. Kepa'a also tallied three hits in the contest and launched her team-leading 10th longball of the season.

Weckel added two hits to the effort while Rodgers, Moreno, Sandoval and Fields all had one.
