PRESCOTT, Ariz. (February 28, 2026)
The Yavapai Softball team came out strong this weekend during their Home Opener, where they were able to sweep Central Arizona and win all four of their contests!
Game 1
In this close opening game, Yavapai defeated their ACCAC rival 3-2 with a walk-off double from
Avree Rhodes at the bottom of the 7th inning!
Besides Rhodes' double,
Danica Kern and
Tamryn Tucker were each able to tally an RBI as well.Â
Pitchers
Daisy Smith and
Sofi Wagner-Stiles each had 3 strikeouts, with the latter doing that in just 2 innings.
Sofia Romero's 4 fielding assists helped keep the Roughriders in the game, as they went on to win 3-2 in Game 1.
Game 2
Early season dominance is always a huge factor in momentum, and the Roughriders were able to keep their momentum high with this 18-10 win over the Vaqueras.
YC led 9-0 in the first inning, and after Central rallied back, Yavapai was able to bring the score up to 18 by the end of the 5th inning.
Kayley Gibb had an excellent 5 RBI game, totaling 3 hits and 3 runs for herself.
Georgia Wagner-Stiles had 3 RBI's as well, including a double.
Kern and Rhodes each had stolen bases in this game.
Olivia Durazo's 2 K's on the mound were crucial for the Roughriders, while
Daisy Smith and
Ryder Wilmarth would refuse to allow more than a single hit each.
Game 3
On Day 2 of the double-header vs. Central AZ, Yavapai started strong once more and crushed the Vaqueras in an 8-0 shutout victory.
Nearly every Roughrider had an RBI in this game, and half the team had 2 hits in this match, including
Mindy Ward, who had the only YC extra base hit of this game.
The pitching trio of
Daisy Smith,
Ryder Wilmarth, and
Sofi Wagner-Stiles only allowed 3 hits total, and Wilmarth was kind enough to gift the opponents 3 K's.
Lucia Jessen's 5 putouts were able to stomp CAC out and lead Yavapai to their third win of the weekend.
Game 4
The final game of the series was no different than the previous game, as YC handled their business with a 10-2 win, securing the sweep over the Vaqueras.
Dani Kern's 3 RBI's and
Tamryn Tucker's 2 doubles were the game changer in this event, as Yavapai steamrolled their competition to yet another victory!
Georgia Wagner-Stiles also had a triple in this game, the first of the weekend.
Gibb's 4 fielding assists were good enough to leave the opponents stranded at just 2 runs in this game, and Yavapai would go on to win their first 4 ACCAC conference games!
Yavapai Softball is now 9-10 on the season, and are undefeated at home and in conference play!
