HENDERSON, Nev. (January 31, 2026)
The Yavapai Softball team shortly finished their weekend in Henderson at the CSN Kickoff Classic, going 2-3 in 5 games.
Yavapai has started off their season 3-6 on the road thus far, but it has otherwise been a promising start for the 15 Roughriders!
Game 1 - vs. Spoon River
Yavapai would lose in their first game to Spoon River 7-3.
Sofia Romero batted in all 3 runners in this game off just one hit, and
Georgia Wagner-Stiles' hit count was up to 3 in this contest.
Sofi Wagner-Stiles pitched a great 5 1/3 innings, striking out 6 and giving up 2 runs.
Game 2 - vs. North Idaho
Yavapai won this game against North Idaho 10-9!
This game featured a 3-run Home Run from Sophomore Infielder
Tamryn Tucker! Along with Tucker's 3 RBI,
Ryder Wilmarth batted in 2 runners, and
Danica Kern had the only XBH of the game for the Roughriders, hitting a double.
Kern and
Avree Rhodes each stole 2 bases in this game as well.
Daisy Smith had 7 strikeouts in 5 innings, and Wilmarth pitched 4 K's in just 2 frames.
Tucker and
Mindy Ward each had a Double Play as well.
Game 3 - vs. Salt Lake CC
Unfortunately, the luck from Game 2 did not carry over into Game 3, as SLCC beat the Riders 10-2.
Kayley Gibb had the solo RBI this game, while
Thalisa Soto stole for the second run. Gibb and Yeluamny Alvarado each had a double in this game, and Kern had a stolen base as well.
Game 4 - vs. North Idaho
The rematch game against North Idaho the next day did not go as planned for the Cardinals, as the Roughriders won this game 10-6, marking their third W of the season!
Although there was no Roughrider home run in this game, G. Wagner-Stiles had 3 RBI and a double, and Tucker and Rhodes each had an XBH as well.
Kern, Gibb, and Soto are proving to be quite the speedsters of this team, because they each had a stolen base in this game!
Sofi Wagner-Stiles started this game as well, and she had 9 strikeouts!
Game 5 - vs. Snow
Yavapai lost their final game of the Kickoff Classic in an 11-0 shutout against the Badgers of Snow.
Thalisa Soto had another stolen base this game as a pinch runner, and Gibb, Romero, and Ward all contributed to a Double Play in this game.

Yavapai Softball will continue their season on the road for their next stretch of games, and next Friday, February 6th, the Roughriders will head down to Chandler-Gilbert in a 2-game series against the Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert. Game times are at 12 & 2 PM.
