Yavapai Baseball Wins Series vs. #21 Central Arizona

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Early in the week, the Yavapai Roughrider Baseball team continued conference play at home when they faced off against the #21-ranked Vaqueros of Central Arizona. Out of the three-game series, Yavapai would take 2 of the games, scoring 22 total runs! For the season, Yavapai has bested the Vaqueros 4-2.

Game 1

This game was a close 9-innings, and the Riders had a chance to come back from a 6 point deficit to win the ballgame, but the Vaqueros were too tough, and they would win the first game 11-9.

Matthew Peterson and Justin Cherrington both hit home runs in this game! (Both of their 10th Home Runs of the season, both lead the team in HR's). The other 7 runs were run in by Nathan Nichols (2), Reid Hurtt, Kevin Ramos, Caleb Horsey, and Brady Francisco. The runs were batted in from Hurtt, Horsey, and Liam Richards. 

Horsey and Francisco each stole a base in this game.

Pitchers Traig Oughton and Chase Blease each had 3 strikeouts in 4 innings in this game. Shane Hooper came in at the top of the Ninth and faced 3 batters, striking out 2 of them!

Brady Francisco had 8 putouts, 2 assists, and caught 2 runners stealing. Cherrington had 6 putouts, and Matthew Peterson had 3 assists.

Game 2

The first game of the double-header may not have had a lot of scoring, but the competitiveness was certainly there! The Riders would win this game 1-0!

The only run was scored by Liam Richards, and he was batted in by Justin Cherrington. Cherrington would also steal a base in this game.

Pitcher Collin Adams would allow zero runs, only 3 hits, and have 6 strikeouts in 6.1 innings!

On the final play of the game, the Riders had a double play from Matthew Peterson to Justin Cherrington. Kevin Ramos would also get credit for a double play. Brady Francisco had 6 putouts, while Cherrington had 5. Ramos had 5 assists.

Game 3

Unlike the middle game of the series, this game had tons of offense, enough for Yavapai to win the game and the series, winning 12-6!

Justin Cherrington would record the only home run of the day, batting in 3! He had an RBI of 5 for this game, and had 2 total runs. The other runs came from Liam Richards (3), Caleb Horsey (2), Reid Hurtt, Matthew Peterson, AJ Diaz, Kevin Ramos, and Dalton Irwin. The runs were batted in by Ramos (3), Diaz, Horsey, Brady Francisco, and Nathan Nichols. 

AJ Diaz and Liam Richards each stole a base during this game.

Ty Thompson would start at pitcher, and threw 5 strikeouts! Shane Hooper would relieve him, and he had 4 K's.

Brady Francisco had 9 total putouts, while Justin Cherrington had 6 and a Double Play. The other Double Play came from Matthew Peterson, who had 5 assists on the field.

This Saturday, April 12th, the team will make their way down to Glendale to face off in a double-header vs. Glendale CC. Those games will be at Noon and 2:30 PM.
