Yavapai Softball Splits Series with Southern Nevada; Looks to Move Up the Playoff Standings

YC SB goes 2-2 vs. CSN, in close race with AWC for 3-seed

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai Softball team has clinched a spot in the playoffs, and the girls are trying to make their way up the standings as the regular season comes to a close! In this weekend's matchup against Southern Nevada, the home team went 2-2 against the visiting Coyotes, which means the final standings for the playoffs have yet to shake out!

Sophomore Night

On the morning of April 26th, the Sophomores of the Yavapai College Softball team were recognized before the set of games! Those sophomores are:

-Brianna Baca, #1, SS
-Angelica Carrillo, #2, 2B
-Ivannya Perez, #4, RF
-Hayden McGuire, #5, 1B/3B
-Emmersyn Villa, #10, LF
-Charley Pitray, #22, 1B/3B
-Natalie Ojeda, #24, C

Congratulations to a great sophomore season!

Game 1 

Yavapai dropped the ball in the first game, losing 1-9.

The one Yavapai run was run in by Hayden McGuire, with the run being batted in by Eniyah Dominguez

Brianna Baca, Olivia Boswell, Emmersyn Villa, and Hayden McGuire all received 3 putouts, while Ivannya Perez had 2.

Game 2

The Riders would rally back in Game 2 and beat the Coyotes 12-6!

Olivia Boswell would run in an impressive 3 runs off of 3 hits, and Brianna Baca had 5 at bats, 4 hits, 3 runs, and 2 runs batted in! Charley Pitrat and Eniyah Dominguez had 2 runs apiece, and the rest of the runs came from Tamryn Tucker, Hayden McGuire, and Lily Booth. Pitrat also had 3 RBI's, with the other RBI's coming from Tucker, McGuire, Booth, Emmersyn Villa, and Natalie Ojeda. None of the Riders struck out while batting during this game. 

Pitrat and Yeluanmy Alvarado each had one stolen base.

Starting pitcher Mackenzie Durr pitched 4 innings and had 5 strikeouts!

Natalie Ojeda at catcher had 6 putouts in 5 innings, while Tamryn Tucker and Lily Booth each had 4. Hayden McGuire had 4 assists.

Game 3

The next day, Yavapai had a strong start to the day following the Sophomores' ceremony, and the all-sophomore starting group led Yavapai to a 10-4 victory in the morning!

Brianna Baca and Charley Pitrat each ran in for 2, while Kylie Sam, Yeluanmy Alvarado, Tamryn Tucker, Olivia Boswell, Hayden McGuire, and Emmersyn Villa each ran in for one. Boswell, Villa, and Natalie Ojeda would all bat in 2, and the rest of the runs were batted in by McGuire, Tucker, Pitrat, and Alvarado.

Boswell went 4-4 at the plate, and also had one stolen base!

Breanne Petty and Kaitlyn Hudson each had 1 strikeout.

Charley Pitrat had 7 putouts at first base, while Ivannya Perez had 6 in right field! Brianna Baca and Kaitlyn Hudson each had 3 assists.

Game 4

The final game of the series was a close one, but the visiting Coyotes would end up winning 9-8 in the final inning.

Brianna Baca, Olivia Boswell, and Emmersyn Villa each had 2 runs, with the other 2 coming from Yeluanmy Alvarado and Hayden McGuire. Pitrat would end the game with a game-high 4 RBI, and the other runs would be batted in by Gracie Firth, Tamryn Tucker, Ivannya Perez, and Emmersyn Villa

Mackenzie Durr continued a great season of pitching by obtaining 3 strikeouts in 4 innings!

Natalie Ojeda and Charley Pitrat each had 5 putouts, while Emmersyn Villa had 4. There were 4 double plays in this game, each one coming from Ojeda, Pitrat, Baca, and Villa.

UP NEXT

Next week is the final Softball series of the regular season! The Riders will make their way down to Yuma to face off against the Matadors of Arizona Western. Games 1 and 2 will be on Friday, May 2nd at Noon and 2 PM. Games 3 and 4 will be the next day, May 3rd, at 11 AM and 1 PM.
