GLENDALE, Ariz. – On Saturday, April 12th, the Yavapai Baseball team made their way down to Glendale to face off against the Gauchos of GCC. Yavapai would drop the first game, but then come back and dominate in Game 2, tying the series 1-1.
Game 1
The Roughriders would drop Game 1 of the Double-Header, scoring 4 to their 7 in the scorching heat.
AJ Diaz,
Kevin Ramos,
Brady Francisco, and
Justin Cherrington were the run scorers in this game, with those runs being batted in by
Derek Kiepke (2), Diaz, and Ramos. Kiepke would also record a steal in this game.
Shane Hooper threw 3 strikeouts in 3 innings, while Diaz threw one K.
Kiepke had 6 putouts, while
Matthew Peterson had 5 with 3 assists. Double plays came from Peterson,
Kevin Ramos, and
Justin Cherrington.
Game 2
The second game of the day was a little more on brand for the Riders, as they would handle the game in 6 innings, winning 18-4!
Justin Cherrington not only had the only home run of the game, but he also was a perfect 4 for 4 on the plate, batted in 4, and ran in for 4!

Matthew Peterson (2),
Kevin Ramos (2),
Nathan Nichols (2),
Caleb Horsey (2),
Liam Richards (2),
Lucas Franz, and
Jackson Schofield. Peterson, Schofield, and
Dalton Irwin all batted in 3 runs each, as well as one a piece from Franz and Richards!Â
Franz, Horsey, and Irwin all stole one base each, and triples came from Irwin, Cherrington, and Richards!
All three pitchers (
Owen Fernandes,
Justin Parkes, and
Griffen Clapp) had one strikeout each.
Nichols and Peterson had 4 putouts each, while Irwin had 3 assists. Peterson, Irwin, and Cherrington each had a double play as well.
