Yavapai Softball Splits Series With Arizona Western

YC SB goes 2-2 with AWC

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Over the weekend, the Yavapai Softball team continued conference play at home when they faced off against the Matadors of Arizona Western. Out of all 4 games, Yavapai would end up winning the first 2, and the Matadors would win the last 2.

Game 1

The first game of the series began at around 1 PM on Friday, March 28th, and Yavapai won 8-4!

Gracie Firth had a home run in this game! Other runs in this game would come from Tamryn Tucker (2), Brianna Baca, Olivia Boswell, Hayden McGuire, Ivannya Perez, and Emmersyn Villa. The runs would be batted in by Firth (3), Kylie Sam (2), Boswell and Villa. 

Sam and Boswell would each steal a base in this game.

First baseman McGuire had 9 putouts, while Boswell had 5. Kylie Sam had 7 fielding assists, and Double Plays would come from Sam, Baca, and McGuire.

Game 2

The second game was less of a competition, as the Roughriders would win this game 11-3 in 5 innings!

There were no home runs this game from the home team, yet the 11 runs scored would come from Brianna Baca (2), Olivia Boswell (2), Hayden McGuire (2), Ivannya Perez (2), Angelica Carrilo, Gracie Firth, and Emmersyn Villa. Villa and Natalie Ojeda were both responsible for batting in 2 runs, while the rest of the runs were batted in by Firth, Baca, Boswell, McGuire, and Tamryn Tucker.

Olivia Boswell stole a base in this game.

Winning pitcher Mackenzie Durr pitched 5 innings and got one strikeout, while allowing only 4 hits.

McGuire had 8 putouts, and Durr had 3 assists. 

Game 3

The first game of the Saturday double-header, beginning at 11 AM, ended with a Matador win, where they won 9-2.

The two runs came from Tamryn Tucker and Hayden McGuire, and the runs were batted in from Natalie Ojeda and Emmersyn Villa

Starting Pitcher Mackenzie Durr had 5 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Ojeda ended up having 6 putouts, while McGuire and Kylie Sam each had 3. Brianna Baca had 3 assists, and double plays would come from Baca and Ojeda.

Game 4

The final game of the series had Yavapai falling short 10-2.

Just like Game 3, the two runs would come from Hayden McGuire and Tamryn Tucker. The Tucker run was batted in by Brianna Baca. McGuire's hit was a double.

McGuire had a team-high 9 putouts, and Kylie Sam had 4. Baca had 4 assists, and pitcher Breanne Petty had 3. Double Plays came from McGuire, Tucker, and Gracie Firth.

Next week, conference play at home continues, as the Riders take on the Vaqueras of Central Arizona in a 4-game series! Games are on Friday, April 4th starting at Noon and 2 PM, as well as Saturday, April 5th at 11 AM and 1 PM.
