PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Over the weekend, the Yavapai Baseball team played in a 3-game series vs #25 Arizona Western, and this series turned out to be an instant Yavapai classic! All 3 games ended with a walk-off home run by the home team, one from Justin Cherrington in Game 2 and TWO WALK-OFF HOMERS in Games 1 and 3! Yavapai would defeat the #25-ranked Matadors in a 3-0 sweep!

Game 1

This game was a nail-biter all throughout, and ended with an AJ Diaz walk-off Home Run to make the final score 11-10!

Besides AJ Diaz's 2 runs, either runs would come from Kevin Ramos (2), Caleb Horsey (2), Justin Cherrington (2), Matthew Peterson, Nathan Nichols, and Liam Richards. Runs would be batted in by Peterson (2), Diaz (2), Ramos (2), Brady Francisco (2), Nichols, and Carson Feddema.

Horsey and Richards each stole a base in this game, and Francsico and Peterson each had a triple.

Traig Oughton had 5 strikeouts, and winning pitcher Ty Thompson had 3 strikeouts facing 7 batters. 

Double Plays came from Ramos, Cherrington, and Shane Hooper. Cherrington had 10 putouts, while Francisco had 9. Peterson had 3 assists. 

Game 2

Justin Cherrington called game, scoring a walk-off 3-run home run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Yavapai would win the game 15-4.

Cherrington and Caleb Horsey each scored a home run in this game! Other runs came from Matthew Peterson (2), AJ Diaz (2), Reid Hurtt, Dalton Irwin, Brady Francisco, and Liam Richards. Cherrington batted in 6 of these runs alone, as he also had 2 doubles in this game.

Matthew Peterson stole two bases in this game, and Diaz, Horsey, and Richards would each steal one as well.

Winning pitcher Collin Adams pitched an excellent game, gaining 4 strikeouts and allowing zero hits until the final inning.

Cherrington had 6 putouts, and Francisco had 4. Kevin Ramos had 3 assists.

Game 3

In the series' wild finish, AJ Diaz would end up hitting the walk-off 2-run Home Run in the bottom of the 10th inning, winning the game and the series 15-14!

Besides Diaz's homer, the Roughriders would score 4 more home runs! Each run came from Matthew Peterson, Carson Feddema, Brady Francisco, and Justin Cherrington. 3 of these home runs came in the first inning alone! 

Peterson and Richards each had 3 runs, Feddema and Diaz with 2, and the rest came from Reid Hurtt, Kevin Ramos, Caleb Horsey, Brady Francisco, and Justin Cherrington.

Chase Blease had 5 strikeouts, while Kyle Lockridge and AJ Diaz had 2.

Francisco had 10 putouts, and Cherrington had 7. Ramos had 6 assists.

Next weekend, the guys will make their way up to Henderson, where they will face-off in more conference play on the road against #6 Southern Nevada. Games 1 and 2 will be on Friday the 28th at Noon and 2:30 PM. Game 3 is the next day at 12 PM.
