Yavapai Baseball Continues Conference Play On The Road vs. Cochise

YC falls 0-3 in Series at Cochise

DOUGLAS, Ariz. – The Yavapai Baseball team, after having their games delayed a few times, finally got to play against Cochise College, even if the games were changed to away games. In the 3-game series, Yavapai would take none of them, as Cochise would go on to win all 3.

Game 1

The first game began at Noon on Monday, and Yavapai fell in this battle 0-6.

The Yavapai batters only got one hit by Matthew Peterson, and Nathan Nichols and Caleb Horsey each were able to steal a base.

Collin Adams pitched for 4 innings and got 5 strikeouts.

Brady Francisco had 6 putouts, while Peterson and Kevin Ramos each had 3. Peterson also had a double play as well.

Game 2

The second game of the first day went to 12 innings, and unfortunately, Yavapai fell short in this game as well, losing 4-5.

The 4 runs were scored by AJ Diaz, Caleb Horsey, and Liam Richards, with the fourth coming from a Matthew Peterson 1-run Home Run! Justin Cherrington batted in the other 3 runs. 

Diaz and Richards each stole a base as well.

Traig Oughton pitched 6 innings and had 5 strikeouts. Nick Garcia also had 2 K's facing 13 batters.

Brady Francisco had 10 putouts, and Diaz had 6, as well as a double play. Francisco caught a runner stealing a base in this game.

Game 3

The final game of the series came down to the wire, but Yavapai could not pull out the win. Cochise would win 6-4.

Runs in this game were scored by Matthew Peterson, Carson Feddema, AJ Diaz, and Justin Cherrington. Yavapai had 3 home runs in this game, scored by Peterson, Cherrington, and Diaz! Liam Richards stole a base in this game as well.

Ty Thompson had 6 strikeouts in 5 innings, and AJ Diaz and Owen Fernandes each had 2 of their own.

Derek Kiepke had 11 putouts, while Peterson had 4. Diaz had a double play, and 2 of Kiepke's putouts were catching a runner stealing a base.

UP NEXT

The Roughriders will return home to play against Central Arizona this weekend. Games 1 & 2 will be on Friday, March 14th, at 12 & 2:30 PM. Game 3 will be on Saturday, March 15th, at 12 PM.
