Palm Springs, CA (February 15, 2025) – Traig Oughton threw a perfect game yesterday (Friday), and Yavapai College swept both games played on Saturday to sweep the three-game series against Community Christian College in Palm Springs, CA.
Oughton's perfect game highlighted a weekend series sweep for the Roughriders, who outscored CCC 48-2.
Game 1 (Friday)
The Roughriders dominated game one on Friday, 13-0, behind Oughton's perfect performance. He needed just 56 pitches (46 strikes), to complete the six-inning effort. He struck out 8.
Justin Cherrington led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Dalton Irwin also homered in the game as the Roughriders pounded out 12 hits.
Game 2 (Saturday)
YC took game two 18-0, powered by 15 hits and 10 walks drawn.
Liam Richards went 3-for-4 with four runs and three stolen bases from the leadoff spot.
AJ Diaz knocked in four RBIs in the game.
Collin Adams picked up the win, throwing four scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and struck out five.
Game 3 (Saturday)
The hot bats continued in the series finale, with YC winning 17-2.
Matthew Peterson went 3-for-3 with a triple, four RBIs, and two runs scored to lead the Roughriders.
Reid Hurtt went 2-for-3 with a double and also had four RBIs and two runs scored.
Payton Pudenz struck out five in three innings to pick up the win.
Chase Blease threw the final two innings with four K's.
The Roughriders (6-6 overall, 6-6 ACCAC) return home on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Thompson Rivers University at Roughrider Park. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
