YUMA, Ariz. -- Over the past couple of days, Yavapai Baseball has faced off against Arizona Western in 3 games down in Yuma. The guys played hard, and were only able to take the W in one of the three games.
Game 1
The first game took place at 5 pm on Friday, January 31st. The Roughriders lost this match 4-5 against the Matadors.
One of the four runs was a Home Run scored by
Justin Cherrington! The other runs were ran in by
Reid Hurtt,
Matthew Peterson, and
Kevin Ramos. Peterson batted in 2 runs, and
AJ Diaz batted in one.
Carter Boone faced 18 batters and struck out 4 of them, while
Ty Thompson faced 17 and struck out 2.
Brady Francisco caught an opponent stealing a base, and he and Hurtt each had a fielding assist.
Game 2
The next day, the double header began at noon, and Yavapai squeezed out a win here, going 3-2.
Jackson Schofield had a Home Run this game! The other runs came from
Kevin Ramos and
Liam Richards.
AJ Diaz batted in one runner, while Schofield batted in two (one of those being himself).
Payton Pudenz,
Collin Adams, and
Nick Garcia each had their turn up on the mound. Pudenz faced 13 batters and had one strikeout, while Adams had 8 and also had one strikeout.
Game 3
The final game at 2:30 pm was a 2-7 loss versus the Matadors.
Kevin Ramos and
Nathan Nichols each had one run, woth both oif those runs being batted in by
Reid Hurtt.
Traig Oughton faced 23 batters and had 6 strikeouts, while
Griffen Clapp had 2 and
Chase Blease had one.
Brady Francisco caught a runner stealing.

The Baseball team will play their first home games of the season this upcoming weekend! They will face off in 3 games against #16-ranked College of Southern Nevada this Friday Feb. 7th, and Saturday Feb. 8th.
