YUMA, Ariz. -- Over the past 2 days, the Yavapai Softball has been participating in the Great Western Shootout Invitational in Yuma, hosted by Arizona Western College. At this invitational, Yavapai managed to sweep their competition, going 3-0!
Game 1
The first game took place yesterday, January 30th, at 5 pm. Yavapai faced off against Southern Idaho, and beat them in a close game, scoring 1 run to their 0.
The singular run of this game was scored by
Ivannya Perez, who had the run batted in from
Olivia Boswell.
Winning pitcher
Mackenzie Durr had 9 strikeouts and allowed only 4 hits in 7 innings!
Hayden McGuire had 3 assists, and catcher
Natalie Ojeda had 9 putouts.
Game 2Â
The next two games were played today, January 31st, the first of the day taking place at 12:30 pm against Chandler-Gilbert. The Roughriders won this game 6-2.
There were 6 runs scored by Yavapai in this game. The runners were
Gracie Firth (2),
Kylie Sam,
Brianna Baca,
Olivia Boswell, and
Ivannya Perez. Tamryb Tucker batted two of the runners in, as well as Firth, Baca, and Boswell.
Pitcher
Daisy Smith had 5 strikeouts and faced 22 batters.
Breanne Petty had one as well.
Baca had 5 assists. Firth had 9 putouts, while Tucker had 6. Baca and Tucker each had a double play.Â
Game 3
The last game of the day (3 PM) was against North Idaho, where Yavapai smoked the competition and won 9-4.Â
Brianna Baca had 3 runs ran in,
Olivia Boswell had 2, and
Kylie Sam,
Yeluanmy Alvarado,
Hayden McGuire, and
Lily Booth each had 1. Baca also batted in 2 of these runs, as well as Sam, Booth, McGuire, and
Tamryn Tucker.
Mackenzie Durr would return to pitch 6 innings and had 9 strikeouts!
Natalie Ojeda had 9 putouts, while
Tamryn Tucker had 4, Booth with 3, Boswell with 2, and Baca,
Breanne Petty, and
Emmersyn Villa each with one. Baca had 3 assists, and Durr had 2.

The Yavapai Softball team does not play again until February 28th. Their next games will take place in Coolidge against Central Arizona.
