HENDERSON, Nev. -- During this past weekend, the Yavapai College Softball team began their season by playing in 5 games in the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic Invitational! Over the course of the 5 games, the Roughriders managed to win 2 of their 5 games.
Game 1Â
The Roughriders faced off against the Salt Lake City Community College Bruins to begin their season. This game took place at 1 pm on Friday, January 24th, and Yavapai would fall 0-2.Â
The game was a close matchup, however, no runs would be scored in this game for the Roughriders.Â
Mackenzie Durr pitched for all 7 innings of the game and managed to get 3 strikeouts.
Game 2
The second game happened shortly after the fist, where Yavapai would face off against Spoon River at 3:30 pm. They won this game easily 12-6, their first official win of the season!
This game had many runs, including a home run from
Gracie Firth! Other runs would be scored by
Kylie Sam,
Tamryn Tucker,
Olivia Boswell, and
Ivannya Perez.
Boswell, Firth, and Sam would also each have at least one stolen base during this game.
Kaitlyn Hudson,
Daisy Smith, and
Breanne Petty would all pitch in this game, with Hudson pitching during 4 innings. Out of the 20 batters Hudson faced, she was able to strike out one of them. Smith had two strikeouts.Â
Game 3Â
The last game on Friday was against South Mountain from Phoenix. The 6 pm game led to a final score of 7-5, with South Mountain winning this battle in extra innings.
Yavapai managed to get 3 Home Runs in this game! These were scored by
Charley Pitrat,
Tamryn Tucker, and
Hayden McGuire.
Brianna Baca and
Olivia Boswell each had a run as well.
Pitrat had a stolen base this game.
Mackenzie Durr would return to pitch all 8 innings. She had 8 strikeouts in her 35 batters faced.
She and catcher
Natalie Ojeda each caught the opponents stealing one time.
Game 4
The next day, Saturday January 25th, the Roughriders faced off against the Snow College Badgers at 8 am. Yavapai was able to beat the Badgers 10-7.
Out of the 10 runs scored,
Tamryn Tucker was able to score a Home Run! The other runs would be scored by
Brianna Baca (3),
Ivannya Perez (2),
Gracie Firth,
Olivia Boswell,
Hayden McGuire, and
Lily Booth.
Breanne Petty would pitch the majority of the innings here, having pitched 3 innings and facing 13 batters.
Daisy Smith and
Kaitlyn Hudson also pitched in this game. Hudson and Petty would each catch two batters stealing bases.
Catcher
Gracie Firth also caught a batter stealing a base.
Game 5
The final game was a close game against North Idaho, which began at 1 pm later that Saturday. The Roughriders would fall 7-6.
There were 6 Yavapai runs scored this game, with
Brianna Baca and
Olivia Boswell each scoring 2 runs. The other runs were scored by
Kylie Sam and
Natalie Ojeda.Â
Olivia Boswell stole 4 bases in this game.
Kaitlyn Hudson and
Breanne Petty both pithced in this game, and each of them had one strikeout. Hudson even caught a batter stealing a base.
Catcher Ojeda also caught someone stealing a base.
UP NEXT
The Softball team will travel down to Yuma this weekend to face off in the Great Western Shootout, hosted by Arizona Western. While there, the Roughriders will partake in three games.
The first game will take place against Southern Idaho. This game will happen on Friday, January 30th, at 5 pm.
The next two games will take place the next day on Saturday the 31st, against Chandler-Gilbert and a rematch against North Idaho. These games will happen at 12:30 pm and 3 pm, respectively.
