PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- In today's Yavapai Women's Basketball game, the Roughriders faced off against the visiting Central Arizona Vaqueras. This was a very close game, where no team led by more than 10 points, but the battle was ultimately decided by the Vaqueras, who would win this close match-up 67-72.
The first half had a strong start for the home team, as great plays led to a lot of early offense. Three pointers came from
Stephanie Gonzalez and
Ellie Bennett, and
Aysja Ward had a three pointer as well as some floaters.
Courtenay Lee and Bennett were able to create some easy shots, and
Tierra Bargeman had a tough bank shot near the end of the half.
The defense kept Yavapai in the game, as Bennett and Baregman had some critical steals. Bargeman even recorded a block, and this kept the score close at halftime, with Central Arizona leading 35-34 .
In the second half, the game remained close, as defensive efforts came from all over. Lee had a block and Bargeman took some tough charges in the paint. On the offensive side, big shots would come from Lee,
Jon'qora Moore, and Ward. Major three-point shots would be made from deep by Bennett, Moore, and
Amani Arraf.
Central Arizona would win, scoring 72 points to Yavapai's 67.
