This year, both the Men's and Women's soccer teams had proven to found much success throughout this 2024 season, enough to the point where both teams were able to make it into the Division 1 Regional Playoffs! As the playoffs are nearly upon both teams, it is important to take a look back through the season and recognize how each team was able to make it to this point.
Men's Soccer
The Men's Soccer team finished this season with a record of 5-5-2. There were some tough, low scoring games in there, but the team was well coached by Chris Houser, Billy Gatti, Rick Larso.n, and Michael Tristiani, enough to where the real slug fest games were some of the most important.Â
A couple notable wins for the Men's team includes a 4-1 win against rivals College of Southern Nevada, where the Roughriders marched into the lair of the Coyotes and sent them packing. Yavapai was also able to top another division rival, Community Christian College, with a 4-0 win at home. But most importantly, Yavapai College defeated Eastern Arizona College at home 4-0, which is very important as Yavapai will face off against them at home tomorrow.
The entire team is very lucky and grateful to be in the position to have a prolific offseason. Many key players came in clutch this season with some great goals scored, as well as some great saves! Goalkeeper
Maximiliano Ionita kept Yavapai in many of these games, as well as some help from
Brendan Heck. Great offensive plays came from many of these guys, but some notable scorers include
David Murillo,
Anthony Khananisho,
Jacob Vincent,
Erick Quirarte, and many more players. Overall, this team was clicking offensively this year, and they hope to continue this trend into their upcoming home playoff game!
The Men's Soccer team will host a playoff game this Tuesday, Oct. 28th, at Ken Lindley field at 7 pm!
Women's Soccer
The Women's Soccer team was able to maintain a record of 6-6-5, good enough to land an away spot on the playoffs bracket! There were many tie games this season, with three tie games in a row at home. But with those ties came some great wins, which resulted from high-scoring offenses and some great defensive plays! This team, coached by
Rozie DeWeese and Keetley McLachlan, is proud to have made it this far, and they hope to get higher up throughout the duration of the playoffs.
The Roughriders had some great wins this year. Just like the Men's team, the Women's team was able to march into Southern Nevada and pull out a 2-0 win. Yavapai also was able to cause Community Christian to forfeit their game, where Yavapai scored 9 first half goals before the opponents called it quits. Then, Yavapai went back to the Redlands to score another 12 points against CCC! It is safe to say that this team has had much success this season with high scoring. However, their biggest test is awaiting them, as they play Arizona Western College on Wednesday night, and YC has not been able to best them quite yet.
This team has had some great production from both sides of the ball. With defensive stops coming from
Talon Bennett and
Poppy Anderson, as well as some great defense coming fromÂ
Ziyana De Los Reyes Guerrero andÂ
Maddie Antonini, the defense in these games made it hard for the opponents to score a lot on this team, As for the offense, much of the charge came from
Kiera Campbell and
Sophia Fottrell, with much help coming from
Paola Carrillo and
Reagan Peterson. This team is very tight knit, and their playing style can prove that statement, as communication was rarely an issue for this team throughout the season!
The Yavapai College Women's Soccer team will play an away playoff game, on Wednesday October 30th, against Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ. This game will take place at 7 pm!

Please wish both soccer teams good luck as they try to both make their way to the Division Finals!
