PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai College baseball team hosted the Arizona Christian University Prospect team on Friday afternoon at Roughrider Park and came away with a pair of wins with scores of 5-4 and 12-2, respectively. On the season, the Roughriders are now 22-13 overall and 15-9 in ACCAC contests.

Game One
The Roughriders tallied their first run of the day in the bottom of the third in game one on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch of freshman outfielder Nolan Sparks. One half inning later, ACU tied the contest with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, freshman catcher Peyton Holyoak singled in a pair of runs to regain the lead. Later in the inning, Sparks stepped up to the plate once more with the bases loaded and hit a sacrifice fly to give YC a 4-1 lead with three innings left to play.

ACU, however, was able to push a run across in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth to tie things up at 4-4 with one inning left to play.

After ACU went scoreless in the top of the seventh, sophomore infielder Ethan Thomas hit a one-out walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Roughriders the victory. For Thomas, it was his sixth longball of the season.

On the mound, freshman righty Caden Griffin got the start and went 4.1 innings while allowing just one earned run. Sophomore righty Thomas Bartels relieved Griffin and tossed 2.2 innings while also only allowing one earned run.

At the plate, Holyoak led the way in game one with two hits while sophomore outfielder Blake Jacklin and Thomas each had one.

Game Two
Four of the first five ACU hitters singled in the top of the first inning in game two to give the Firestorm a quick 2-0 lead. From there, it was smooth sailing for freshman lefty William Fife who registered the start in game two.

Fife held the Firestorm scoreless the rest of the way and finished the day with a five-inning complete game in which he allowed just six hits and two runs and struck out two as well.

Offensively, it was early and often for the Roughriders as they scored once in the first, five times in the second, twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to earn the 12-2 run-rule victory.

The aforementioned run rule was put into effect with a frozen-rope two-run double to center in the fifth by Thomas, earning him his second walkoff hit of the day.

Thomas wound up with three hits in game two (two doubles and his seventh homer of the season) and five RBI's. Freshman outfielder Zachary Dando also tallied three hits in game two and scored four times.

Sophomore outfielder Jude Hall registered two hits in the ballgame (one double) while sophomore infielder Mitch Wood and freshman outfielder Danny Schweitzer each doubled in the game as well. Freshman infielder Quinn Allen also tallied a hit in game two, a two-run homer that was his second of the season.
