Roughrider Softball Stays Relentless, Sweeps Arizona Western

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 5-ranked Yavapai College softball team continues to dominate its opponents this season. This time, the Roughriders swept the Arizona Western College Matadors on Saturday afternoon in Yuma, Arizona, with scores of 15-0 and 11-2. 

For Yavapai, it is now 16-1 on the season, 8-0 in the ACCAC and has tallied 15-consecutive victories via the run rule. 

In game one, the Roughriders smashed five home runs with three coming off the bat of freshman infielder Lovey Kepa'a. Kepa'a finished game one with four runs scored and seven RBIs while leading the Riders in hits with three. 

Freshman catchers Ashley Fields and Jasmine Moreno also left the yard in game one. The duo also doubled to each finish the day with two hits. Sophomore outfielders Mia Weckel and Kayla Rodgers and freshman infielder Yaya Kaaialii also tallied two hits in game one with Kaaialii and Rodgers also doubling. 

Inside the circle in game one, sophomore pitcher Emily Dix continued to mow hitters down. She tossed five scoreless innings, struck out seven and allowed just two hits. Her record on the season now improves to a perfect 6-0.

Up Next
The Roughriders are back in action on Tuesday, February 22, in Chandler, Arizona, where they will face off against the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes in an ACCAC doubleheader. Game one's first pitch is set for noon.
