Yavapai Baseball Showcases Offense Against Ottawa University of Arizona in Double-Header; YC wins Game 2 in 27-0 Shutout

YC Baseball Sweeps OUAZ in 2 Game Series

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (March 24, 2026)

The Yavapai Baseball team came out to Roughrider Park today with fierce intensity as the team swept the visiting Spirit of Ottawa University of Arizona in today's double-header, including a 27-0 shutout victory in Game 2.

The first game of the day was a bit of a struggle for the Roughriders, but Carter Brown swooped in to save the day. Brown would hit his second home run of the game, but in dramatic fashion, hit a walk off Grand Slam in the Bottom of the 7th inning to win the game for the home team, winning 13-10.

The second game was a 27-0 shutout victory, one of the higher-scoring Yavapai Baseball wins in recent history. While Yavapai was able to knock down 5 Homers in this game, the win could not have been done without excellent pitching from Owen Fernandes. The Sophomore pitched 4 innings, allowed zero runs, walked none, and struck out 7!

Game 1

As stated above, Yavapai was down for the majority of this game, until a late offensive push from the Roughriders led to a 6-run final inning and a walk off Grand Slam from Carter Brown!

Brown had not one but two dingers in this game, bringing his total on the season to 7. Garison also hit a Home Run in this game.

Other offensive efforts came from Parker Halvorson, who hit a clutch Triple in the final frame to bring 3 runners home, as well as Doubles from Matthew Peterson and Dalton Irwin. Brown had 5 RBI, Halvorson had 4, and Jones had 3.

Carter Brown also pitched too, and had 3 strikeouts today. Josh Adler came in as the reliever and had 4 K's of his own.

Yavapai would win Game 1 of the Double-Header 13-10.

Game 2

The second game of the Double-Header resulted in a 27-0 shutout victory!

5 Roughrider Home Runs were to be had in this game, including shots from Tarrell Reid, Aukai Araujo-Waiau, Revan Maduro, Reid Hurtt, and Owen Fernandes.

Garison Jones, while not scoring with a Home Run in this game, still had 5 RBI's thanks to his 4 total hits, 3 of which were Doubles! Araujo-Waiau and Maduro each had 4 RBI's, while Reid and Hurtt each had 3.

Parker Halvorson had another Triple in this game, and Matthew Peterson had one stolen base.

Owen Fernandes, one of the Home Run hitters of this game, was also the starting pitcher, where he pitched an impressive shutout. In 4 innings pitched, Fernandes allowed zero runs, 3 hits, zero walks, and 7 strikeouts. Paul Fernow came in at the Top of the 5th and had 1 strikeout and did not allow a batter to get on base.

Three double plays came from the Roughriders in this game, coming from Tarrell Reid, Matthew Peterson, and Dalton Irwin.
