Strickland Earns Win in First Start at #25 Central Arizona; Yavapai Baseball earns First Conference Win of the Season

YC BB Pitcher earns Win last weekend over CAC

COOLIDGE, Ariz. (March 10, 2026)

Over the weekend, the Yavapai Baseball team played in a 3-game series at #25 Central Arizona. Yavapai would walk away with a 7-4 win in the last game, with help from Freshman Pitcher Max Strickland, who earned his first start of the season!

Strickland, who has primarily been a reliever this season, earned a start for the final game of the series against Central Arizona, and it looks like he is well-equipped for the task this season. In 5 innings, Strickland pitched his way into the win column, tallying 2 hits, 3 earned runs, and a ridiculous 8 strikeouts! Strickland now has 24 K's total this season, a team high for Yavapai, and was a major factor in leading the Roughriders to their first ACCAC Conference win of the season!

On the batting end of the stat sheet, Sophomore Matthew Peterson had another Home Run! He would record 3 RBIs off two hits in this game. Derek Kiepke had 2 RBIs in this contest as well, while Garison Jones and Aukai Araujo-Waiau both hit Doubles.

Yavapai fell short in the first two games against the Vaqueros, but would win the final game 7-4, putting them at 8-8 on the season, and adding a win to their conference record!
