PRESCOTT, Ariz. (September 6, 2025)
Yavapai College Volleyball has just completed their four game stint at the Yavapai College Volleyball Invitational, and they just swept the Park University Buccaneers, their second sweep of the day!
The first set was a close 25-20 win by the Roughriders, which saw five kills come from
Valerie Sabalza, and two from both
Destiny Matthews and
Skylar Schwartz each. Matthews also had a block, and two back-to-back service aces from Hédi Mayerhoffer helped seal the win for the first set.
The second set was an all-time classic, where Yavapai came from behind and went back and forth with Park until the final score was in the 30s!
Skylar Schwartz showed up to play in this set, where she amassed 6 kills, alongside 2 each from Mayerhoffer and
Micah Gardner! Matthews had a couple of key blocks in big moments, and service aces from Mayerhoffer,
Mariah Leyva,
Morgane Breault, and Gardner would inevitably help the Roughriders score an absurd 32 points to the Buccaneers' 30.
The final set also seemingly came down to the wire, as Yavapai would complete the sweep and win 25-19! Once again, Schwartz had another multi-kill game, totaling 5 in this set, including the 25th point. Mayerhoffer had an ace and a block, while other kills came from Sabalza, Gardner,
McKenzie Wright,
Sarah Lora, and even the Libero
Jezebel Rivas!
Yavapai won this match 3-0, and went 3-1 in their home invitational!
