PRESCOTT, Ariz. (September 5, 2025)
Yavapai Volleyball just played their second game of the day and their second game of the Yavapai College Volleyball Invitational, where they faced off in a late battle against Midland College. Yavapai played hard, but would fall 1-3 against the visiting Chaparrals.
The first set was won by Yavapai, Â 25-16. Kills were intense and fast, and came from many different players, including
Micah Gardner (4), Hédi Mayerhoffer (2),
Aubrey Parris (2),
Skylar Schwartz,
Destiny Matthews, and a sneaky one from
McKenzie Wright. Schwartz also had a block, and
Jezebel Rivas and
Morgane Breault each had a couple service aces.
The second set was a very close match, but Yavapai would fall 23-25.
Destiny Matthews and
Micah Gardner both had 4 kills each, while Schwartz and Mayerhoffer each had 2. Defensive efforts came from Mayerhoffer, Matthews, and
Anouk van Kollenburg, in the form of blocks. Even though Breault had 2 aces in this game, it was not enough to defeat the Chaparrals.
The third match featured three kills from Gardner, two from Schwartz, and a surprising kill from the Libero,
Jezebel Rivas.
Mariah Leyva had an ace this game, and Matthews and Gardner each had a block of their own, but the enemy would win this battle 25-16.
The final set of the match was another Midland win, 25-17.
Valerie Sabalza had 3 kills and
Skylar Schwartz had 2 of her own, while Breault had another ace, and Gardner another block.
