PRESCOTT, Ariz. (September 17, 2025)
Earlier tonight, Yavapai Volleyball hosted their first home conference match-up this season against the nationally-ranked #20 Arizona Western. Although the matches were high scoring and competitive, the home team could not get it done, and Yavapai fell 1-3.
Yavapai would win the first match 25-22! Serving started off strong, with aces coming from Aliceya Çiftçioglu, Hédi Mayerhoffer, and
Morgane Breault.
Destiny Matthews continues her defensive dominance, scoring a block this set, alongside
Eris Pimentel and
Micah Gardner. The real winners of this game were the high-intensity offensive plays, mainly coming from Mayerhoffer, Matthews, and
Skylar Schwartz. The 25th point for the Roughriders this set was a kill from
Eris Pimentel!
The next set was another close set, but Yavapai would score the same amount of points as the Matadors had in the previous set: 22. Mayerhoffer continued to dominate the front line with defensive stops, and Breault served up some beauties in the backcourt. Pimentel and Matthews each had 2 kills in this set, but the Matador offense was starting to pick up at this point, and Yavapai would not be able to keep up.
The third set had more Gardner and Matthews blocks, as well as kills from Schwartz, Mayerhoffer,
McKenzie Wright, and
Aubrey Parris. Yavapai lost this set 13-25.
The final set of the night seemed to be a Matador blowout win, but that isn't exactly what happened. Although the Matadors were up 24-12, Yavapai did not want their night to end. Yavapai went on a crazy run of 7 unanswered points, thanks to the help of multiple blocks from
Anouk van Kollenburg, Mayerhoffer, and Gardner! Although the effort was nearly miraculous, Yavapai's luck would run out, and the final set ended at a 25-19 Roughrider loss.
