YUMA, Ariz. (August 25, 2025)
The Yavapai College 2025 Volleyball team began their regular season this weekend in Yuma, to face off against three teams in the Arizona Western College Volleyball Invitational!
Yavapai would win 1 of their 3 games.
Match 1
Yavapai would lose in three sets to Glendale CC.
Micah Gardner would finish the match with 6 kills and 2 service aces.
Valerie Sabalza finished with 4 kills.
Jocelyn Taveras and
McKenzie Wright each had 8 assists and 4 digs.
Defensively, Hédi Mayerhoffer had 3 solo blocks and 2 blocking assists, while Gardner had 2 solos, and
Destiny Matthews had 3 assists.
Match 2
The second match of the tournament was against Central Wyoming, and Yavapai would end up winning one of the  four sets that were played.
Across all four sets, Micah Garnder had 8 kills, while
Skylar Schwartz had 5.
Gardner and
McKenzie Wright each had 2 service aces. Gardner would end the day with 6 digs, while
Jezebel Rivas had 5.Â
On the defensive end,
Destiny Matthews had an impressive 7 solo blocks across all four games, as well as having 2 blocking assists. Hédi Mayerhoffer had 6 solos.Â
Yavapai fell to Central Wyoming 1-3.
Match 3
The next day, the Roughriders had fresh new energy and were able to use that to defeat Western Wyoming CC 3-1!
Across 4 sets, Gardner stole the show once more with 13 kills and 6 aces!
Valerie Sabalza had 5 kills, while
Aubrey Parris,
Anouk van Kollenburg, and
Destiny Matthews each had 4.Â
McKenzie Wright had 13 assists and 4 digs, and
Maria Clara Gadelha Cruz had 8 assists.Â
Matthews and Gardner each had 2 solo blocks, and Matthews assisted on 4 blocks.

The Roughriders return home for their home opener this week! Their next game is this Wednesday, August 27th, at home vs. Chandler-Gilbert CC. First serve is at 7 PM.
