Yavapai Men's Basketball Earns First Home Loss in Close Thriller vs. Glendale

YC MBB scores 70 to GCC's 73 at Home

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (November 21, 2025)

The Yavapai Men's Basketball season thus far has been filled with thrillers, and tonight's match-up vs. Glendale at home was no different. Tonight, the Gauchos came into Walraven Gym, where the Roughriders gave the home crowd a great show. Yavapai would lose tonight's ball game in heartbreaking fashion, losing 73-70, and earning their first home loss of the season.

In the final possession of the game, Yavapai was down 3 with 15 seconds to go. The ball was given to Timotey Zoonekynd, who missed his three-pointer from the right side. Yavapai was able to get an offensive rebound, and the ball was kicked out to Rudolfs Svitins for a last chance effort to tie the game. The three-pointer was shot as the final horn rang and it was just short, as Svitins was well beyond the arc at this point. A tough home loss for the Roughriders, but there were some standout performances that deserve to be mentioned.

The Roughriders were a little short staffed tonight with Yavapai County-natives Jason Parent and Amari Lawrence out of the game, so it was up to Torin Bosch and Rudolfs Svitins to make big plays. Both members of this Roughrider club played for 38 minutes and scored 17 each, with Bosch scoring an efficient 8-13 from the floor and Svitins having luck at the free throw line, shooting 5-6.

Kayne Gilmore had a great night as well, scoring 10 and making both of his attempted three-pointers.

Alex Pierce, while having a slow night to his standards, still had 8 points and 8 rebounds, some of which made a huge impact down the stretch.

Svitins was also able to block a couple big Gaucho shots in the second half, while he, Bosch, Zoonekynd and Raphael Nibishaka all had one steal in this game!

The Roughriders were down by double-digits at multiple points in this game, so they were almost able to complete the comeback, but fell just short of the mark.

Yavapai MBB is now 5-4 on the season and 4-1 at home. While this was a heartbreaking loss, the Roughriders still prove to be a really tough team to play within Walraven!
