PRESCOTT, Ariz. (October 17, 2025)
The Yavapai Volleyball team was previously on a 6-game win streak until tonight, when the #13 Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona came into Walraven Gymnasium and defeated the home team 3 sets to 1.
Yavapai would go on to win one of four sets, and in that set, Yavapai played some of their best volleyball of the season! The defensive frontline led by
Destiny Matthews,
Eris Pimentel,
Micah Gardner, and Hédi Mayerhoffer was unstoppable, sending back all balls sent their way. Yavapai's only set win tonight came in the third, where they won 25-15.
As for the entire match, the girls had an all around great game that could have easily been their 7th dub in a row if a few things had gone their way. Leading the offensive charge were
Skylar Schwartz and
Morgane Breault, who each had 7 kills across the 4 sets.
McKenzie Wright had 14 assists, and service aces came hot and ready from Schwartz (3),
Jezebel Rivas,
Valerie Sabalza,
Mariah Leyva, and Mayerhoffer (2).Â
Defensively, that third set had blocks all around the court! Big stops came in from Gardner, Matthews, Pimentel, Mayerhoffer, and Breault!
Yavapai would fall 1-3 to the nationally-ranked #13 Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters, who currently sit atop the ACCAC D1 standings going undefeated within the conference.

Yavapai's next home game is against Central Arizona, another big ACCAC conference match-up. On Friday, October 24th, Yavapai Volleyball will have their annual 'Sophomore Night,' honoring those on the team that will graduate after this season! That game begins at 7 PM.
