PRESCOTT, Ariz. (October 15, 2025)
Earlier tonight, the Yavapai Volleyball team looked to increase their winning streak to 6 as they faced off against #9-ranked DII Mesa CC. Yavapai would go on to upset and SWEEP the Thunderbirds 3-0, while stretching their win streak to 6 games!
The first set was a tense back and forth bout between the Roughriders and the Thunderbirds, and Yavapai would take the W 28-26.
Morgane Breault stood out early with 4 total kills, while later kills would come from
Eris Pimentel and
Skylar Schwartz (3 each). While both
McKenzie Wright and
Valerie Sabalza each had a service ace, the real defining moments of the set came from defense, where Hédi Mayerhoffer had 3 blocks, including the game-winning defensive stop.
The second set was a truly dominant performance from the home team, as the Roughriders would score 25 to Mesa's 14. Once again, Schwartz was a key component to the dominance, killing the ball 4 times. Other kills would be provided by
Destiny Matthews, Breault, and Mayerhoffer. Breault had one service ace, and Pimentel had 2 blocks.
In the third and final set, Yavapai would sweep the #9-ranked Mesa in a 25-20 win! This last set's dub was mainly thanks to great serving, where
Morgane Breault,
Jezebel Rivas,
Mariah Leyva, and
Skylar Schwartz all had a service ace. 2 blocks from Mayerhoffer held down the defensive front, while multiple kills from Schwartz, Mayerhoffer, and Breault (including the 25th point) had Mesa shaking their heads with disappointment by the end of the match!
