COOLIDGE, Ariz. -- The Yavapai Baseball team opened their season this weekend against Central Arizona. The team traveled down to Coolidge to face off in three games, one on Friday and two on Saturday. Yavapai would go 2-1 in this series.
Game 1
Yavapai won the first game 6-1 on Friday, January 24th.
The 1 pm game featured runs from
Brady Francisco,
Justin Cherrington,
Nathan Nichols,
AJ Diaz,
Matthew Peterson, and
Jackson Schofield.Â
Ty Thompson pitched for 5 innings and had 4 strikeouts, while
Carter Boone had pitched for 3 and was the cause for 3 strikeouts.
Game 2
At 11 am the following day, the Roughriders won again 4-2.
Runs were scored from
Brady Francisco,
Kevin Ramos,
Nathan Nichols, and
Matthew Peterson.Â
Payton Pudenz pitched for 4 innings and had 1 strikeout.
Collin Adams had 2 strikeouts in 2 innings.Â
Game 3
Unfortunately, Yavapai could not keep the win streak alive, as the home team would get the best of them during this game.
The 1:30 game ended in a high scoring 7-9 game.Â
Liam Richards had a monster game where he scored 3 runs by himself. The other runs were scored by
Reid Hurtt,
Matthew Peterson,
Nathan Nichols, and
Caleb Horsey.
Chase Blease pitched for 4 innings and had 2 strikeouts.
Austin Kalsek pitched for 1.2 and had 4 strikeouts.

The Baseball team will travel down to Yuma next Friday to play against conference rival Arizona Western on January 31st. This 3 game series will feature one game on Friday 2 pm, and then a double header with games starting at 12 pm and 2:30 pm.
