YUMA, Ariz.-- Tonight the Yavapai College Volleyball team traveled down to Yuma for their playoff game versus the Arizona Western College Matadors. The Roughriders fought a hard-fought battle, but fell 0-3 to the 1-seed AWC.
The first set featured great serving from #13
Ciara Yearby, who had 4 aces in this set alone. The away team started off slow, but came back to keep this match competitive, especially will high intensity plays from #9
Marija Raonic, #11
Hannah West, #15
Tiona Drumm, and #10
Jocelyn Taveras. Even with great defense from #8
Hanna Pereira and Raonic, and after coming back from an 8 point deficit, Arizona Western was able to grab the W, 25-22.
Set two features an uptick in Yavapai defense, where big blocks came from #3
Micah Gardner, Drumm, and Pilimai. Great offense kept the lower-seeded Roughriders in a tight match as well, with spikes coming from Pilimai, Raonic, Pereira, and Drumm. Arizona Western would also take this game, however, winning 25-18.
Down 2-0, Yavapai had to make some big moves in order to get back into this game. That charge was led by #4
Emily Hogg, who made a big spike followed by an ace in order to keep this game a competition in the opening minutes of the match. Multiple big spikes and blocks would come from
Trinity Pilimai to further the YC competitive efforts, as well as great serving rom #17
Makaya Moody. But even with more offensive plays from Taveras and Gardner, Yavapai could not eke out a win against the #1 seeded Arizona Western, who won their third set 25-19.Â
The Yavapai College Volleyball team, as well as coaches
