PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- In tonight's pivotal matchup between division rivals Yavapai versus Eastern Arizona, the Roughriders fight hard, but ultimately fall 1-3 versus the visiting Monsters.
Set 1, won by Eastern Arizona 25-14, was a tough start for the Roughriders. Some great defensive plays were able to be made from #15
Tiona Drumm, #3
Micah Gardner, #11
Hannah West, and #8
Hanna Pereira. On the other side, Drumm and #16
Trinity Pilimai had big spikes, and even with some
Micah Gardner offensive efforts, YC could not get on top.
The second set went a little differently, with Yavapai winning 25-22. With the help of the Libero #13
Ciara Yearby, Yavapai was able to eke this one out. Great serves from #17
Makaya Moody helped lead to even better offense from Drumm, Pilimai, and three major spikes from #18
Michalina Oles. Oles also got involved in some high level defense, as well as Pereira and #10
Jocelyn Taveras.
Sets three and four had lots of great offense, but some defensive holes began to show. Great spikes and kills from Drumm, Pilimai, and Oles, as well as some incredible diving saves from Yearby and #6
Teodora Bulatovic, would help keep YC close in this game. Great defense later from Pilimai and Gardner would not be enough to stop the juggernaut Monsters from winning 22-25, and later 21-25.
These two teams will face off tomorrow at 1 pm. Thank you to Yavapai College staff and faculty for attending the match!
