Roughrider Men’s Basketball Reaches Double-Digit Wins

1/6/2024 10:06:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – After defeating the Glendale Community College Gauchos 97-73 on Saturday night inside of Walraven Gymnasium, the Yavapai College men's basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season, improving to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

"We did a great job of playing together," Head Coach Kevon Davis said after the win. "We shared the basketball and our offense benefited greatly from it."

Benefited greatly might have been an understatement for the Roughrider offense on Saturday as YC scored 97 points, knocked down 15 three-pointers and saw six players reach double figures in the scoring column.

The first player to reach double digits on the night was freshman guard Kam O'Bannon whose stellar play midway through the first half turned the Roughriders' eight-point deficit into a four-point lead.

Trailing 20-12 with less than 12 to play, O'Bannon scored on four of the next five YC possessions, knocking down a pair of free throws, a pair of three-pointers and slamming home a vicious dunk en route to a 25-21 lead with eight minutes to play in the first half.

O'Bannon's hot streak fueled the Roughriders throughout the remainder of the first and YC went into the break with a 47-36 lead.

After the break, the Gauchos scored the first four points to cut their deficit to seven, however, it was as close to the Roughriders as they would get the rest of the afternoon as YC's second-half three-point barrage proved to be too much to handle.

Of their 15 deep balls, the Roughriders knocked nine of them down in the second half, including two separate streaks where they hit three-pointers on three-consecutive possessions.

With a big lead in hand, YC eventually cruised to the aforementioned final of 97-73.

Sophomore guard Carter John knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 14 points while freshman guard Nadir Myers hit three from downtown and finished with nine points and O'Bannon finished with three three-pointers as well and scored 13 points.

Other Roughriders to reach double-digit scoring totals included freshman forwards Raphael Dupouy (12) and Martin De Laporterie (14) and sophomore guards Ray Glasgow (12) and Kieran Carr (10).
