Women’s Soccer Shuts Glendale Out For Sixth-Straight Win

9/26/2023 10:34:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The win streak runs to six games for the Yavapai College women's soccer team as it defeated the Glendale Community College Gauchos 4-0 at Ken Lindley Field on Tuesday afternoon.

"We found a way to get the win and keep the shutout," Head Coach Rozie DeWeese said after the game. "Our patience in possession and in creating goal scoring opportunities has continued to improve. Overall, I am really proud of the growth of our team and what we've accomplished up to this point."

With the victory, the Roughriders are now 8-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Tuesday's victory also tied the program record for wins in a single season and tied the program record for consecutive victories as the 2022 Roughriders also enjoyed a six-game win streak.

After the first half water break, sophomore forward Emma Young found the scoresheet for the Roughriders as she made a strong play to move around the Glendale defense and launched a booming shot to the top of the net to collect her fifth score of the season.

15 minutes later, freshman defender Ava Manwill lined up for a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box and buried it to the right of the keeper to give YC a 2–0 lead with her fifth goal of the season as well.

After the half and with 25 minutes left in the game, freshman forward Victoria Taylor took the ball to the corner and fired a shot on net that the GCC keeper could only get a piece of. Sophomore midfielder Cami Prieto promptly followed by sending the rebound to the back of the net for a 3-0 YC lead.

Prieto's goal was her third of the season while Taylor took home her second assist.

The final Roughrider goal of the afternoon came with 15 minutes left to play off the foot of the aforementioned Young. This time, freshman defender Rylee Kunker sent a ball into the box that evaded the Glendale defense and found Young who chipped it in for her second score of the day and sixth of the season while Kunker tallied her second assist of the season.

In net, freshman goalkeeper LJ Hempel tallied her eighth win and third shutout of the season.
