Soccer Season Arrives At Yavapai College

8/14/2023 9:18:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Student-athletes are back on campus at Yavapai College and that means it's time for the start of fall sports. The Yavapai College men's and women's soccer teams kick things off this week with their home/season openers.

The Games
Soccer begins on Thursday, August 17, at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott, Arizona, where the Roughriders will take on the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes with the women's game starting at 3:30 p.m. and the men's game starting at 6 p.m. Both games will also be streamed on GoRoughriders.com/Live

Two days later (Saturday, August 19) the women will head down to Tucson, Arizona, for a non-conference regular-season matchup with the Pima Community College Aztecs that is slated for a 5 p.m. start.

For the Coyotes and Aztecs, all three games serve as their respective season openers.

The Women
Last year, the Roughrider women went 8-8 and narrowly missed out on a second consecutive region playoff appearance. This season, the roster is comprised of three returners and 22 newcomers and can be found here

The Roughriders have defeated the Coyotes in two consecutive seasons (including the first win in program history) and are 1-3 overall against the Aztecs (the lone victory being the program's first victory against a ranked opponent).

The Men
Last year, the Roughrider men went 9-4-1 and ultimately fell in the region title match 2-1 against the Arizona Western College Matadors. This season, nine returners and 15 newcomers make up the roster (found here) that will try and win the program's eighth national championship.

In the all-time series against the Coyotes, the Roughriders are 4-0.
