Hot Shooting Leads Roughrider Women’s Basketball Past South Mountain

2/18/2023 6:00:00 PM

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Yavapai College women's basketball team hit from long distance 11 times in its Saturday afternoon victory on the road against the South Mountain Community College Cougars. The 81-57 win pushed YC's overall record this season to 9-16 and conference record to 6-13.

Despite freshman guard Saydee Allred knocking down an early three, the Roughriders trailed 10-3 at the halfway point of the first quarter on Saturday afternoon.

From there, it was all YC as the Cougars could not contain Allred nor the Roughriders.

On the next four possessions, YC scored with a couple of jumpers from freshman forward Kishyah Anderson, a basket from freshman guard Hollie Dalton and three pointer from fellow freshman guard Wynter Huskie and the Roughriders led 12-10 in the blink of an eye.

In the second quarter, YC took firm control of the contest as it stacked 26 points up on the strength of six three pointers: three from the red-hot Allred, one from Huskie, one from Anderson and one from freshman guard Brooklyn Wiltbank

After taking a 38-23 lead into the break, it was more of the same for the Roughriders in the second half as they scored 20 in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter to bring home their second-highest scoring game of the season.

Allred wound up knocking down six three pointers to lead all YC scorers with 27 while Anderson had 23 and Wiltbank had 10.
