Mesa Sprints Past Women’s Basketball

MESA, Ariz. – The Yavapai College women's basketball team was unable to stop the No. 8-ranked Mesa Community College Thunderbirds on the road on Wednesday night and fell 74-35 to drop to 8-16 overall and 5-13 in conference play. 

With two minutes left to play in the first quarter, freshman guard Brooklyn Wiltbank hit a pair of game-tying baskets to bring the score to 15-15, however, the Thunderbirds went into the second with a 19-15 lead. 

In the second quarter, the Roughriders tallied just four points which Mesa took advantage of to take a 32-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. 

In the second half, YC was unable to mount a comeback attempt while the Thunderbirds shot lights out to cruise to a 74-35 victory. 

Freshman forward Kishyah Anderson led all YC scorers with 11 points on the night.

The Roughriders are back on the court on Saturday, February 18, in Phoenix, Arizona, where they will take on the South Mountain Community College Cougars with gametime set for 4 p.m.
