Men’s Basketball Falls To Western Wyoming

11/18/2023 3:34:00 PM

LAS VEGAS – The Yavapai College men's basketball team fell to 5-3 overall on the season after an 88-77 loss on Saturday afternoon to the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs.

After trailing by a couple of points throughout the first 10 minutes of play, sophomore guard Tym Richardson knocked down a three to give YC its first lead of the day at 16-15.

Five minutes later, YC trail 23-17 and rallied once more thanks to some stellar play from sophomore guard Ray Glasgow. Glasgow hit a three to cut the lead in half and, on the next possession, drove to the rim, hit the basket, got the foul call and knocked down his free throw to complete the three-point play and tied things up.

After the Mustangs hit a three, Glasgow flashed his brilliance once more with a steal and slam to cut the deficit to just one.

The one-point deficit was as close as the Roughriders would come in the first half as the Mustangs took a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

After halftime, YC's woes unfortunately continued as the Roughriders found themselves with a 26-point deficit with nine minutes left to play and the scoreboard reading 64-38 in favor of Western Wyoming.

Despite showing no quit and knocking down 10 three-pointers after being down 26, the deficit proved to be just a bit too large for the Roughriders as their comeback attempt brought them as close as nine points with 1:40 left on the clock.

The Mustangs, however, were able to tack on some insurance points and prevailed with the aforementioned 88-77 final.

Glasgow led all YC scorers with a season-high 36 points that included six three-pointers. Freshman guard Nadir Myers also scored in double digits with 13 points on the strength of four three-pointers.
