YC Women’s Basketball Falls To No. 12 Pima

1/28/2023 5:46:00 PM

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Roughrider women's basketball team headed to Tucson for a rematch with the No. 12-ranked Pima Community College Aztecs on Saturday night and fell 82-69. The loss drops YC's overall record to 7-12 and conference record to 4-9.

The night belonged to the Aztecs with the exception being the first quarter. Tied 9-9 late in the period, the Roughriders scored a quick 10 points thanks to three point balls from freshman guards Wynter Huskie and Saydee Allred and a couple of nice layups from freshman forward Kishyah Anderson

Up 19-12 at the start of the second quarter, the Roughriders saw their lead evaporate rather quickly as Pima scored the first seven points of the quarter to tie things up. At the end of the period, the Aztecs had tallied a total of 33 points and took a 45-28 lead into the locker room.

After the first half, the aforementioned Allred went on a scoring rampage, torching the Pima defense for 19 points, nine of which came from three pointers.

The hot shooting from Allred, however, was not enough to keep pace with the Pima offense as it led 60-46 after three quarters and finished the game up with a 82-69 victory.

Allred led the Roughriders in scoring with 22 on the night while Anderson had 17 and freshman guard Hollie Dalton joined the duo in double digits with 11 points of her own.
