PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai College athletics department is excited to announce the hiring of Patrick Woods to be the seventh head baseball coach in Yavapai College history.

"I am extremely excited for the upcoming challenges as the head coach of Yavapai College baseball," said Woods. "The coaching staff and I are fired up and ready for the grind of the upcoming season. Time to get after it!"

Woods comes to Yavapai College from Keller, Texas, where he has been the Director of Coaching and Operations for the North Texas Baseball Club (NTXBC) since October of 2009.

While with NTXBC, Woods directed and managed a coaching staff of 22 coaches and 250-plus players biannually. 90-plus% of Woods' players went on to play baseball at the collegiate level.

In addition, Woods oversaw a budget that exceeded $750K in annual revenue with NTXBC and increased the club's competitive teams by 2000% since its opening in 1999.

Prior to his time with NTXBC, Woods was an Associate Head Coach under Gary Benton's tutelage at Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, Texas, from May of 2000 to September of 2004. While at Hill, Woods helped lead the team to three NJCAA regional tournament appearances. Six of those Hill College players went on to MLB careers.

From September of 1991 to December of 1998, Woods spent time at Oxnard College, both as an assistant coach and head coach. His 1996 squad achieved the highest win total in school history with 31, en route to Woods earning Western Conference Coach of the Year honors. In addition, five of Woods' players at Oxnard went on to MLB careers.

Other coaching stops for Woods include Azusa Pacific University as a graduate assistant coach, Washougal Quakes as a head coach, Ventura College as an assistant coach and Citrus College.

Overall, Woods has sent 90-plus% of his baseball players to the next level with 32 going to the NCAA Division I level and 14 going on to professional careers.

As a player, Woods earned All-Conference honors at Azusa Pacific and Mount San Jacinto Junior College. In addition, he earned MVP honors at Linfield Christian High School.

Woods also earned his bachelors degree in interdisciplinary studies from Liberty University.

"I'm fired up to have Coach Woods at the helm of YC baseball," Director of Athletics Brad Clifford said. "He knows the game, knows how to coach the game the right way and I have full confidence that he will carry on the tradition of Yavapai being a national contender."
