MESA, Ariz. – The No. 13-ranked Yavapai College baseball team finished up its 2022 Zinger Bat Invitational with a 15-4 loss to the South Mountain Cougars on Sunday morning at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona. 

It was a struggle from the start for the Roughriders as South Mountain jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first and after a couple of scoreless innings by both teams, the Cougars scored twice in the top of the fourth and four times in the top of the fifth for a 13-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Yavapai put together a four-spot to bring the score to 13-4, however, South Mountain scored twice in the top of the seventh and held the Roughriders scoreless in the bottom half of the frame for the 15-4 run-rule victory. 

As a team, the Roughrider bats tallied seven hits and the Roughrider pitching only allowed three earned runs while striking out eight. The YC defense, however, totaled six errors on the day.
