Roughrider Women’s Basketball Falls To Pima

12/3/2022 7:29:00 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Yavapai College women's basketball team hosted the Pima Community College Aztecs on Saturday afternoon inside of Walraven Gymnasium and fell by a final of 73-63 to drop to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Freshman forward Kishyah Anderson provided the offense early and often for YC as she scored seven of the first eight Roughrider points to keep pace with the Aztecs who led 11-8 after six minutes played.

With under five minutes to play in the first half, the Roughriders trailed Pima 20-14 and were in danger of falling behind by double digits. That's when freshman guard Saydee Allred caught fire from downtown and drilled a trio of three-pointers in just two and a half minutes of gameplay to erase the deficit and give the Roughriders the lead.

Anderson mixed in a three pointer of her own with Allred's and the Roughriders went into halftime with a 32-27 lead after the 18-7 run.

After the break, the Aztecs scored the first six points of the half to take a 33-32 lead, one which they would not surrender for the remainder of the contest.

The Roughriders, however, never gave up as freshman forward Tera Smith's jumper at the end of the third quarter and Anderson's first two baskets of the fourth quarter tied the game at 53-53.

That was as close as YC would get as Pima took over from there and ran away with the victory with a 73-63 final score.

Anderson led all Roughrider scorers with 25 points while Allred had 15 (five three pointers) and Smith had 14.
