Roughrider Women’s Basketball Drops Contest To Cougars

11/4/2022 6:16:00 PM

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – The Yavapai College women's basketball matched up with the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars on Friday night in its last game of the Hilex Poly/Physician's Immediate Care Tourney and fell 74-46 to drop to 0-2 on the young season.

A slow start doomed the Roughriders once more on Friday night as the Cougars built a 10-0 lead to start the game. YC, however, showed fight early and fought all the way back to a 16-16 tie after freshman guard Keyla Cervantes knocked down a jumper with nine minutes left to play in the second quarter.

From there, Western Nebraska built its lead once more and went on a 25-9 run to head into the break with a 41-25 lead. The big lead was all the Cougars needed as they cruised to a 74-46 victory after outscoring YC 33-21 in the second half.

The aforementioned Cervantes led the Roughriders in scoring with 16 points. Freshman forward Tera Smith followed Cervantes with nine points (three makes from beyond the arc). Freshman forward Kishyah Anderson paced the squad in rebounds with 12 while Smith trailed closely with 11.
