PHOENIX, Ariz. -- On the road and in the valley to start the week, the Yavapai College volleyball team swept the South Mountain Cougars Tuesday night, improving its overall record to 9-10 and ACCAC record to 3-3.

"Any road win in conference play is a good win," Head Coach Zachary Shaver said. "I am happy that our team played more consistently and finished each set well."

The Roughriders jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first set, but had to fend off the Cougars rally for the remainder of the set as South Mountain cut Yavapai's lead to 17-16 and eventually 23-20.

Freshman outside hitter Sophia Parlanti then gave Yavapai a 24-20 lead with a kill that could not be dug out by South Mountain. Now one point away from victory, Parlanti turned the velocity up on her next kill attempt and sent the ball to the gym floor for the 25-20 Roughrider victory.

In set two, the Roughriders took control early with a 7-0 lead and eventually cruised to a 25-18 victory that ended on kills from sophomore right hitter Samantha Holman and Parlanti, respectively.

Up 2-0 in sets, Yavapai dominated set three with a 25-13 score that was capped off by a Holman kill to secure the sweep.
